StepCounter Mobile App
Introduction
This Privacy Policy aims to inform how the StepCounter app ("the App") collects, uses, and protects user data. We also recommend that you review our "Terms of Use" to understand the rules governing the use of our applications.
App Usage
The app is designed to function offline and does not require user registration or a personal account. We do not collect identifying personal information such as your name or email address. The app does, however, access health and fitness data (such as your step count) in order to provide its core functionality — see the "Health and Fitness Data" section below.
Health and Fitness Data
The core purpose of the App is to count your steps. To do this, and only with your explicit permission, the App accesses and collects the following health and fitness data:
- Number of steps taken;
- Distance traveled;
- Total calories burned;
- Historical step, distance, and calorie records read from Health Connect.
This data is obtained from: (a) your device's built-in step-counter sensor and Google Play Services' Recording API, which require the Physical Activity (Activity Recognition) permission; and (b) Android's Health Connect, which the App reads from and writes to only after you grant the corresponding Health Connect permissions.
We use this data solely to display your daily and historical steps, distance, and estimated calories, and to power features such as goals, streaks, and achievements. All processing happens locally on your device.
The App has no servers or backend of its own. Your health and fitness data is stored only on your device and in Health Connect; it is never transmitted to us or to any third party, and it is never used for advertising or shared with AdMob or advertisers. You can revoke the App's permissions or delete this data at any time through Health Connect and your device's system settings.
The App's use of information received from Health Connect will adhere to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Information Collection
To monetize the app, we use AdMob, a Google advertising tool. This service may collect non-personally identifiable information, such as:
- Device identifiers (e.g., advertising ID);
- Technical information about the device and operating system;
- Usage data, such as interactions, impressions, and ad clicks.
The data collected by AdMob is used to personalize ads and enhance the user experience, in accordance with Google's policies and guidelines. For more details, we recommend reviewing the Google Privacy Policy.
Control and Access to Information
Although we do not collect personal data directly, you can manage the information collected by Google by adjusting your privacy settings and ad preferences on your device. Check Google's ad management options for more information on how to control this data.
Advertising and Redirection
The app displays ads provided by AdMob, which may contain links to third-party websites or services. By interacting with an ad, you may be redirected to external pages. We have no control over the content or privacy practices of these sites and recommend that you review their privacy policies before providing any information.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This policy may be updated periodically. We recommend reviewing it frequently to stay informed about any changes.
