Free online word and character counter. Count words, characters with and without spaces, lines and paragraphs, plus reading time, word frequency and term search in real time.
About this tool
This word and character counter analyzes your text right in the browser, with results that appear as you type. Beyond the basic counts of words, characters, lines and paragraphs, the tool estimates reading and speaking time, shows which words repeat the most, and lets you check how many times a term appears. Use the statistics to keep your text within the ideal limits for SEO, social media, and academic work. Everything runs on your own device, ensuring total privacy.

Characters without spaces add up only letters, numbers and punctuation. The total with spaces also includes blank spaces. We show both because each platform uses a different criterion.
The estimate starts from the word count: about 200 words per minute for silent reading and 130 per minute for speaking. These are reference averages, so the real time varies with the reader and the subject.
Very common words, such as articles and prepositions, are left out so that more meaningful terms reach the top of the list. This filtering is available for Portuguese, English and Spanish; in other languages every word is counted.
Yes. Counting works with any language that separates words by spaces, and there is no size limit. Since everything is processed in the browser, you can paste long texts such as articles, theses or scripts.
